Women's Shelters

Women's shelters are provided to women in need when they are faced with a violent situation and they need a safe place to turn to. When women have nowhere else to go, they can temporarily stay at a women’s shelter in order for them to have a safe place to sleep while they recover from their traumatic experience. Many women feel like they have to stay stay in an abusive relationship because they have no where else to go, but with the help of women's shelters across the country, many women are finding the strength to make a change and this gives hope for others that are looking to do the same. Not only do women's shelters provide a place to sleep for women in need, it also provides a meeting group for women to talk and fight against domestic violence.

With the growing number of women's shelters across the nation, many women are taking advantage of the services. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has released studies showing that the women's shelters in America are actually being used more frequently then they used to be and this is both an encouraging and a discouraging sign. It is encouraging because it means that people are actually using the services, but it is discouraging because it means that violence against women is not yet eradicated in our society.
